Our original features aim to reflect the positive and inspirational ethos of vtravelled. We want to stimulate, excite, inform and encourage other travellers to try new things and see new places - maybe something or somewhere they'd never considered before.
Vtravelled contributors are located all around the world and are a mix of established and new and aspiring writers. If you're interested in joining them, please read the following guidelines before submitting an idea.
We're looking for talented writers who are able to capture destinations in imaginative ways that are useful and inspiring to the traveller. Virgin have a reputation for doing things differently and so should you. We're looking for entertaining, engaging, edgy writing with wit, humour and an individual style. You'll be a brilliant wordsmith with a near-fanatical obsession for hunting out the unique, the original and the quirky in any given place.
We're not interested in plodding, overly-serious, po-faced travel writing that no-one wants to read, nor do we want elitist or inaccessible stories that the average traveller cannot aspire to. Writers must have first-hand, recent experience of the destinations they wish to write about, and we don't publish articles that have already been published elsewhere.
In order for your idea to be considered, please follow these submission instructions carefully:
Please send your pitch to editor@vtravelled.com with the subject line: WRITER PITCH - [NAME OF DESTINATION] - [YOUR NAME]
All prospective writers should create a free profile on vtravelled.com and are strongly encouraged to become actively engaged in the vtravelled community.
Include a brief [one paragraph] outline of your idea, a short bio of yourself and a link to your vtravelled profile. Also explain why you believe the article is a good fit for vtravelled and why you're best placed to write it.
Please ensure that your pitch is as focused and specific as possible and not a broad idea. A story on your trip to Venice is not a focused pitch. A story about learning to blow glass with a master artisan on the Venetian island of Murano is much more likely to be considered.
Please include two examples of your work. These should be two opening paragraphs of two different travel articles (each no longer than 250 words). They should be examples of what you consider to be your very finest work. Please ensure you copy and paste them into the body of the email. Do not send any attachments or unsolicited manuscripts.
We offer competitive rates of compensation. If your article is commissioned, it will be on the following basis which is non-negotiatble: First Electronic Rights and First British Serial Rights with an exclusivity period of 12 months. Rates and full terms and conditions will be detailed upon commission.
We will endeavour to reply to everyone who sends us a pitch, but please accept that if you have not heard back from us within six weeks, then we're unable to use your idea at this time.
