I've only gone over the bridge by bike (loads of places hire them) and the views of the San Fran skyline are amazing so def take your camera! If the ride has left you exhausted (or it's too foggy!)...

I'd visited San Fran loads before i succumbed and went on this tour, thinking it would be too touristy.. It is but is also really interesting and well worth going! You look slightly moronic walking...
